Column Sorting within work items

When I'm trying to review Work Items, and I sort for the most recent items, the columns do not stay sorted after viewing an Item. When I return to the work items list, all of the columns are back to their default assortment and I have to re-sort them each time I want to view the next most recent Item, even when using the browser's Back Button. After a handful of re-sorts, I usually lose track of where I was. It adds a lot of time and frustration. Is there a way to hold the column sorting, until the session within a work item list is complete?

To build off of Seth's suggestion, it would be beneficial to have a preset sort order as part of the Screen configuration.
