Due to the length of time that has transpired since the rollout of Cognito, we have now disabled the Old Coursettra login and migration process.   For background:   late 2020 we migrated to Cognito, our current identity provider (login) system.  Students logging into the system for the first time since Cognito was introduced, would automatically (and unknowingly) go through a 1-time process where their old coursettra login would be migrated into the Cognito system.   From there, they would continue to manage their username and password in the new system.   However, Cognito was never setup to manage the 'old coursettra' login passwords.   Over time, many of you have reported that the likelihood of a student who has not logged in for several years remembering their password is slim.   Therefore, some students who are re-engaging have been getting stuck in a password reset process that is not recognizing their 'old coursettra' login.

Long story short:  we have made the decision to finally turn off the 'Old Coursettra' login migration.    This means that if a student has an account from prior to 2020, they will not be able to recover it, and will instead need to create a new account.    Their former username can be reused.   As a system admin, you will still be able to find their former profile, and can merge their information into their new account if you choose.  Though this does cause a risk for potential duplicate accounts for some of those user who have been idle for several years, we believe this will cut down on the support issues and login questions some of you periodically receive.

What does this mean for a student?

  • If a student has not logged in since 2020, they will need to create a new account.
  • They will be able to reuse their username.

What if I am working with a student that only has an 'Old Coursettra' login shown on their profile:

  • Instruct student to create a new account (or an admin can create one for them: the system will email their new credentials automatically)
  • New account can be created using their former username
  • Admin can then merge their formers 'old Coursettra' account into their new one to combine their training items
