Building Your Course

Modified on Thu, Aug 22 at 3:50 PM

When it comes to building a course in Coursettra, the process can be broken into two tasks that must be accomplished:

FIRST:  Starting from the 'ground up', enter all of the Resources, Learning Objectives, and Quiz or Evaluation questions you plan to use within your course.

  • Start from the Training tab
  • Choose the menu for your item of interest (Resource, Lesson Objectives, Quizzes, etc)
  • Select the + Create option and build your items
  • For each of the items you create, make sure you set them to an "Approved" state so they are available for use.

Second:   Create your Course.    Note:  If creating your course for the first time, there are two components you must consider:  (1) the Course Overview, and (2) the Course.      The Course Overview acts as the parent 'master' item, whereas the course represents different copies or offerings of that course.    Course Overviews hold basic information such as the name, credit hours, and overall objectives of your course.     Each offering, or course, you create under the Overview represents a specific occurrence of that course, and hold details such as the course content or schedule, and the students that are part of that offering.

  • Start from the Training tab
  • Step 1:  Create a new Course Overview (if you already have a course overview for the type of course you want to create, you can skip this step).
  • Complete the details of the Course Overview
  • Step 2:  Create a new Course (you will be asked which overview this course belongs to)
  • Complete the General Information details for your course

To build out your course schedule, or list of activities the student must complete:

  • Edit the 'Schedule' section of your course
  • To add your previously entered items (Lesson Objectives, Resources, and Quizzes) content:   Select the icons from the left-side of the Course Schedule that matched the item you wish to add:   Gold = Resources,  Light Blue - Lesson Objectives, Dark Blue - Quizzes).
  • Search for the item you wish to add
  • Click and Drag the item onto your Course Schedule.
    • Drag the item onto the gray box at the top of the course schedule to create a new scheduled event
    • Drag the item onto an existing scheduled event to add your new item to the existing event
  • Complete the settings prompted for your new event
  • Continue adding and creating all of the events you wish to add to your course schedule.

Once complete, make sure your course is set to an "Approved" state.    Once approved, any students you add to the Student section will have access to complete the course from their Home Page.
